Happy 50th Birthday Mum

HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY MUM
*****28TH AUGUST 2013*****

^
These can make great door signs, toppers, card base, door hangers and decorations.

~ August Birthdays ~
You may have noticed that most of the Birthdays in our family fall within a week or two between eachother, August is a VERY busy and expensive month, with lots of celebrations and cake!

~ Bracelet ~
My first necklace that I created a couple of Christmases back, I made with a silver chain, one sided elephant charms, some air dry clay and some silver paint. (This project is not listed above) was a gift to my mum who loves elephants and she loves the necklace. (me not so keen on it)
Because she loved it, I decided for one of her gifts for her 50th I would create a matching bracelet, using the same one sided charms I used for the necklace.

~ Card ~
I was stumped when I came to making the card... Staring at papers, embellishments, looking for inspiration online... nothing.
I decided to colour in some stamps I bought but hadn't used yet for a start, but that was all it was a start, I was still none the wiser about what to do.
When I was looking through my papers I came across the paper pack covers, placing the coloured image over the middle to see which papers may fit... (Light bulb moment!) the image fitted perfectly in the center of the central flower.
I reuse most items or recycle them, but not the paper pack covers as much, this worked beautifully to frame my image, I had two so I layered the other one onto of the other to add dimension and depth. The texture was already there for me, glittered etc. I added a few embellishments - Sentiments, glittered numbers and pearls to complete the card.
I will definately be using the covers more often, as they fit my die perfectly and the colouring is beautiful, with many uses.

Thanks for stopping by my blog - views, comments, ratings etc. are very much appreciated.
I also love viewing and commenting on others blogs.
Great community that helps lift my mood.

MENTAL ILLNESS AWARENESS

Mental illnesses are ILLNESSES and need to be treated like one.
Some people need to be educated and it needs to be made more aware of. Because it is a 'mental' illness people just think it is in their head and they can control it or just stop it, BUT that is not the case and it is NOT that easy. Infact mental illnesses are harder to deal with as they can't just 'heal' like most other illnesses or be treated with a course of antibiotics.

People shrug off mental disorders or even cut people off, when they need them the most, they act differently towards people with mental health issues, this is why so many people keep it a secret and struggle on, the fear of others changing or rejecting them. This is also the reason why so many people with mental health issues feel alone, as people are unaware that others suffer.

There are lots of different mental health disorders, most of which are with people most of their life and generally people suffer with symptoms of more than one disorder. Few examples are: Depression, Bipolar, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Eating Disorders, Schizophrenia, Tourettes, Asperger's Disorder etc.
People with the same disorders can't always use the same method with controlling it, every person's symptoms and disorders are different.

CURE:
Most mental health issues have no 'cure' but they have ways of dealing with it better and coping with it - Medication, Therapy and Lifestyle Change (lots of different options for all of these)

UK MENTAL HEALTH FACTS:
- 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year
- Mixed anxiety and depression is the most common mental disorder in Britain
- Women are more likely to have been treated for a mental health problem than men
- About 10% of children have a mental health problem at any one time
- Depression affects 1 in 5 older people
- Suicides rates show that British men are three times as likely to die by suicide than British women
- Self-harm statistics for the UK show one of the highest rates in Europe: 400 per 100,000 population
- Only 1 in 10 prisoners has no mental disorder

Please feel free to share and spread the word about Mental illness, and if you have a mental illness or know someone that does, don't fear it, embrace it, learn from it and be patient.

Crafting is my passion, my cure, my coping

Craftroom Makeover

The end of the week and this weekend has been spent, shopping and building my new craft space and I love it! Thank you to my partner for making up all of the flatpacked goodies and the money towards it for my Birthday present. :)
 BEFORE
Before I had three plastic storage units, two shelves, 1 desk.
Because I enjoy many different crafts, not even half of my craft items/products could fit into my craftroom, which really frastrated me.

AFTER
I loved the white and teal look, most of our home decor is teal with brown so I wanted similar throughout. I tried to make the most of my space adding as much storage and handy cupboard spaces as I could, I love the end result and have some more matching, storage, shoe box style, boxes on the way to co-ordinate, I now have a home for all of my goodies in my craftroom and I can enjoy it again!
